Save the Date!!

Well, I have to admit this isn’t exactly the “Save the Date” I or many of you had hoped I’d be sending before I was 40, but it will have to do!

Meet Marcus, my younger brother, and living kidney donor! Marcus is a kind-hearted, hard-working, God-fearing overprotective father with a great sense of humor. After many years of debate, he has proven to be the best athlete among the Sims boys. And I’m not just saying that because he’s giving me a kidney either. ;o)

Only 20 months separate us in age and we have always been best of friends as is the story with all of my siblings.

The preliminary procedure date is currently set for December 14th but could be moved up if all of the pre-op screenings over the next month or so are favorable.

New Developments

Last week, I began evaluation for antiphospholipid syndrome, an autoimmune condition that makes your body more susceptible to blood clots. The results should be one of the last pieces of the puzzle before the official green light is provided for the transplant procedure. This will factor into the anticoagulation plan during and after the transplant.

How am I feeling?

I am feeling blessed to have such a great support network. The mental capacity to ignore reality and sometimes the pain is important to maintain. With so many people in constant contact, it's easy to stay in good spirits despite the physical ailments.

Generally speaking, nothing hurts. I experience fatigue, some joint pain, muscle cramps, and occasional upset stomach. All of which come and go periodically. Getting a full night’s rest is virtually impossible as that seems to be the only time my bladder wants to drain.

How am I keeping myself busy?

I am actually still managing my business and advising a few clients on their finance and general business matters.

I have a month remaining of a 6 month Full Stack Web Dev course at UNC-Chapel Hill. Besides this, I am continually working on improving my Spanish and guitar skills with an occasional workout when I have the energy.

Mix in a few meals, and my doctor’s appointments, and there you have it, a busy schedule. LOL

What’s next?

For now, all I can do is patiently wait on the results of my antiphospholipid syndrome evaluation and see if an earlier procedure date is feasible.

How can you help?

Never underestimate the power of positivity! Keep me in your thoughts, prayers, and continue to check in on me as you see fit. I would also love to get updates on what’s happening in your life. It’s been months since I’ve seen some of you, years for others, and literally decades for a few others. Remind me of a good time we’ve had together!

The goFundme Campaign will also remain open for anyone who would like to assist with combating my growing medical bills. Huge thanks to all who have already contributed!

I will continue to provide updates here as they roll in.

Sincerest thanks,

Aaron
